Alaska Aces Hockey
June 3, 2013Game #2 of the playoffs vs Stockton Thunder.
Aces mascot Boomer!
Sometimes you have to look away from the action to see something interesting. Did you notice the ref in that last pic?
I like this shot, Roy seems to be ducking.
I think that one went in.
This one does.
During intermission, Subway launches a few free shirts.
Not sure why, but Bobby Hill gets a couple of runs around the rink with his own theme music.
This needs some clever text in it. Any suggestions?
Look at the way they hold Hughes back. No wonder they won the game.
I like the determined look on his face.
Another goal!
Take that Roy!!
We’ll get them next year!
Nikon D600 pics
April 2, 2013I’ve finally upgraded my old 10.2mp camera to a 24.3mp. The old one had 3 focus points, this one has 39. It’s going to take a bit to learn all the features, but it’ll be worth it.
It’s Springtime in Alaska, but still lots of snow and not many colorful subjects yet.
A black-capped chickadee.
A Steller’s Jay. I like the blue colors in the feathers, but it’s hard to get a good shot with their darker feathers. They seem to prefer the top parts of trees so it’s hard to get a level shot with them, or one without foreground branches in the way.
A Downy Woodpecker. I like the way their spots line up on the feathers.
The squirrel was in the shade. The D600 does very well in low light situations.
A raven on a windy day
Meanwhile at Cheney Lake…

June 2, 2012A bit more of a variety this time.
A robin. Not very colorful, but I liked the pose.
A red squirrel.
Lesser Scaups. Also known as Little Bluebills.
A wasp. I like the quality of my 60mm macro lens much better, but the 300mm keeps you at a safer distance.
Not sure of the exact name, but it looks to be in the Wagtail family. Possibly an Eastern Yellow Wagtail? I was pretty close to this one so I used my 60mm lens on it.
The baby ducklings have arrived!
A male American Wigeon. The clouds moved in so the colors aren’t as bright as they could be.
A recent picture of yours truly! Am I hot or am I hot!!!
Gone Bird Crazy
May 18, 2012Hope y’all like this batch.
He doesn’t look happy with me, but it was real nice of him to pose on a rock for me.
That’s better!
These are my best loon pics. Notice how the color of the head differs with the different angles.
Dive! Dive! Dive!
And this is one of Jordan through some tree sap.
Thanks for stopping by!
Return of the Wildlife
May 11, 2012A rare action shot.
A nice pose with this one.
The sun did a good job of bringing out his colors.
You taking a pic of me?
Not sure what type of bird this is, don’t see many of them.
A nice profile of the Bald Eagle. I’m surprised he landed on such a small branch.
Look left.
Look right. Thank you.
Rick Riordan came up here for a book signing. We don’t get many celebrities like this up here. Thanks RR, you made our day!!
