Anybody But Begich

February 28, 2008

I got this email from our Mayor today:

Dear Frznagn*,

After months of hearing from Alaskans across our state urging me to run for the United States Senate, I have decided to take a significant step in that direction. I have formed the Alaskans for Begich Exploratory Committee, which gives me the opportunity to talk with Alaskans within the provisions of federal election laws.

I need your help today.  Our Senate seat has been held for 40 years by 84-year-old Ted Stevens.  I respect his contributions to our state, but many are saying it’s time for a change.

Great. Now he’s sounding like Obama. Can’t come up with an original theme, eh?

I have not taken this action lightly. I am currently in my second and final term as mayor of Anchorage.  We have accomplished much for our community—19 consecutive years of economic growth, holding the line on taxes and a revitalization of Alaska’s largest city.  My wife, Deborah, and I love the state where I was born and where we’re raising our son, Jacob.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

The coming years are critical for America as we face vital decisions affecting all of us—economic prosperity, health care, education and care for our veterans. Alaskans keep telling me that business as usual isn’t working and that we need a senator with new ideas, who is accessible to all and who has the energy and vision to help change Washington so it works for Alaskans.

I thought Washington worked for Americans.

Over the next few months, I want to hear from as many Alaskans as possible about their concerns and the opportunities for moving our state forward. I plan to visit communities across our state, asking citizens about the most important challenges facing Alaska. I will make a final decision on whether to seek the Democratic nomination for the Senate well before the June 1st filing deadline.

Ok, you can hear from me- DON’T RUN! WE CAN’T AFFORD YOU!

I am realistic about the task ahead. Senator Stevens already has amassed a $1 million war-chest and has proven his ability to raise millions of dollars from Washington special interests virtually overnight.  The Republican National Committee already is gearing up for a negative attack on my 16 years of public service.

War-chest? When a Democrat has a lot of money it means he’s doing good. When a Republican has a lot of money it becomes a ‘war-chest’? How do you figure that? I don’t know about ya’ll, but I don’t like these tactics in a campaign. Can we now say he ‘drew first blood’ by starting off with a negative campaign?

Federal elections laws provide for this avenue to listen to constituents. Contributions to the exploratory effort are permitted from individuals up to $2,300 per election.  Since this committee is fully registered with the FEC, all contributions will be disclosed and individuals can give both for the primary and future general election — for a total of $4,600.  I appreciate any help you can give me today.  You can make a donation online today here.

I’m not running for office, but if you send me money I’ll really, really appreciate it too!

If you would like more information about our efforts please go to www.begich.com.  You can contact me at info@begich.com or call 907-272-6275.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Mark Begich

He forgot to mention how crime and property taxes/values have skyrocketed up here too.

Mystery Plane Seemingly Bound for Iraq Lands in Florida

Why did an airplane seemingly destined for Iraq somehow end up in Highlands County, Fla.?

The small plane, which made an emergency landing in a Florida field, featured Iraqi markings on its body, but most were covered up by paper, the TV station reports.

Capt. Randy Labelle of the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office told MyFOXTampaBay that the plane was en route from Tampa to Miami and was owned by a private contractor planning to take about a dozen of the planes to Iraq.

But Labelle couldn’t say what the plane was doing on this trip, or what happened to the pilot, who was taken to an airport and whisked away on another plane.

What do you think?

Update on China

I still say fuck ’em screw ’em!
Pentagon Is Confident Missile Hit Satellite Tank

Just hours after a Navy missile interceptor struck a dying spy satellite orbiting 130 miles over the Pacific Ocean, a senior military officer expressed high confidence early Thursday that a tank filled with toxic rocket fuel had been breached.

Even so, the State Department was alerting American embassies around the world so they could keep their host governments informed, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency had put out instructions to first responders across the United States about steps to take should hazardous debris fall in populated areas.

The first international reaction came from China, where the government objected on Thursday to the American missile strike, warning that the United States Navy’s action could threaten security in outer space.

Liu Jianchao, the Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesman, said at a news conference in Beijing that the United States should also share data promptly about what will become of the remaining pieces of the satellite, which are expected to re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere and mostly burn up in the next two days.

“China is continuously following closely the possible harm caused by the U.S. action to outer space security and relevant countries,” Mr. Liu said, according to the Associated Press. “China requests the U.S. to fulfill its international obligations in real earnest and provide to the international community necessary information and relevant data in a timely and prompt way so that relevant countries can take precautions.”

American officials were critical of China last year for using an anti-satellite weapon to destroy a satellite in a much higher orbit in January 2007 and then refusing to confirm the test for nearly two weeks. The Chinese test produced 1,600 pieces of debris that are expected to orbit the Earth for years, preventing other spacecraft from using the same or similar orbits.

So where does China get off demanding that we give them data when they didn’t acknowledge their test for two weeks? And look at the results of their test:

The test is the largest recorded creation of space debris in history with at least 2317 pieces of trackable size (golf ball size and larger)[12], thereby increasing the total number of currently tracked objects in earth orbit by more than 22%.

With that record, they are going to demand info from us? Fuck you China! Don’t demand anything that you cannot do yourself first!!!

You’ve been bamboozled.

Hoodwinked. Yes, you have. Don’t shake your head ‘no’. You have. That is, if you flock to Obama like sheep. Or better yet, like he was the Pied Piper.

Ask yourself now, are you following a leader or just someone who is good at finding the right words to say from somebody else?

The New York Slimes (courtesy of The Great One) rags on McCain for some old news but you won’t see them hitting big O with something important or recent. Nope, he’ll get the kid gloves because he obviously can’t handle any challenging questions.

For example, look at what Hillary said about him:

Clinton: Obama Represents ‘Change You Can Xerox’

Hillary Rodham Clinton accused Democratic presidential rival Barack Obama of political plagiarism Thursday night and said he represented “change you can Xerox.”
Obama dismissed the charge out of hand, adding in a campaign debate, “What we shouldn’t be doing is tearing each other down, we should be lifting the country up.”

Mr. Smooth talker can’t even admit what she says is true or not? And he does nothing but deflect the attention back to Hillary. Are we going to have another ‘Teflon President’? Maybe. But we’ll definitely have one that cannot address an issue. Don’t talk about the bad things that I have done, noooooo. Let’s talk about the future and the hope it can bring.

You’ve been bamboozled.

You’ve been warned.

Oh, and before I forget- I found this video from The Absurd Report. At least I’m man enough to give credit where credit is due.

NBC reprimands employee for using picture of bin Laden behind Obama story

NBC News said Tuesday it has reprimanded the employee responsible for mistakenly flashing a picture of Osama bin Laden on MSNBC as Chris Matthews talked about Barack Obama.

“This mistake was inexcusable,” MSNBC spokesman Jeremy Gaines said.

This has been a rough month of apologies at MSNBC. Reporter David Shuster was suspended for two weeks for saying that Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign had “pimped out” daughter Chelsea by having her make political phone calls. And Matthews apologized last month after suggesting that Clinton’s political prominence was due to her husband’s infidelities.

Since NBC has had negative images and words about the two main lefties in the primaries, does this mean they want a righty for prez?

Imagine the uproar if this were Fox News, eh? I’m sure people would be ‘connecting the dots’ and drawing an asinine erroneous conclusion too. I don’t ever want to hear another word from the left how these things are done on purpose for Fox News, but accidental for every one else. Bullshit.

Yes, I’m trying new html tags. Cool, eh?

Letters to the Editor

February 17, 2008

For the Anchorage Daily News. Aharon Sternberg (a Doctor from the Mountain View Neighborhood Health Center) writes in complaining that the health center he works for is going to close down because of a projected deficit of $250,000.

“This clinic served hundreds of patients and was one of the few facilities that accepted Medicare cliental. Now we are reading that a nonresident decided to fly a hot air balloon across the Pacific and after he disappeared, thousands upon thousands of public dollars are continually being spent in the search to find him! Why doesn’t the state use this kind of ‘extra’ available money to help re-open the clinic? Otherwise, this seems like a gross unfairness to the residents of this city and state.”

Am I to understand that Search & Rescue funds aren’t important and thus should be doled out to any other entity that is running a deficit? What kind of logic is this? How would you like it if your loved ones were lost and you were told “I’m sorry, but we don’t have funds to look for them because they were used elsewhere.”?

I’m not an expert on this clinic, but my guess that this is a private clinic and not some government run one. My question is, why should government funds be used to support a privately run organization? Does that mean that I can start a business and if it runs a deficit that I can get government funds?

And notice that interesting part about “one of the few facilities that accepted Medicare cliental.” Like I’ve mentioned before, you’ll have more problems when the government runs your health care. See previous posts for more info- I’m too lazy to retype it all.

But what about your actions?

China concerned by U.S. satellite missile plan

China is concerned by U.S. plans to shoot down an ailing spy satellite and is considering what “preventative measures” to take, the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

“The Chinese government is paying close attention to how the situation develops and demands the U.S. side fulfill its international obligations and avoids causing damage to security in outer space and of other countries,” spokesman Liu Jianchao said.

“Relevant departments in China are closely watching the situation and studying preventive measures,” Liu said in a brief statement posted on the Foreign Ministry’s Web site (www.fmprc.gov.cn).

Excuse me? “Preventive measures”? What about your test last year? You did your test without notifying the world community and yet you complain about us? What gives you that right?

I say Screw China and that we should stop buying from them as much as we can. You know that ‘rebate’ that you’ll be getting? Make sure none of it goes overseas. Remember, it’s supposed to stimulate OUR economy!!!
