Clueless Tech Support, How may I annoy you?

Member [Frznagn] November 28, 2008 12:28:35

My ftp account was deleted due to hacking. I set up a new one but I cannot

connect using my ftp program.

Settings:
ftp host: ftpxx.xxx.com
host dir: /web/xxx.com/
login: xxx
password: xxx

I’ve tried several variations with no success. What am I doing wrong?

Dear Frznagn,

You can get the correct FTP login information here:
1. Login to your account
2. Click on the ftp tab

I’ve done that. I can log into the ftp using the applet but I want

to use the ftp client in Dreamweaver to access my ftp account

and it won’t connect. Which one of my settings is incorrect?

I’ve created two different ftp accounts with different

passwords and no luck. I’d send you a screenshot but it doesn’t

work in this format.

The error message is: An FTP error occurred- cannot make

connection to host. Dreamweaver could not connect because

the server is down or not accepting connections.

Dear Frznagn,

What are you entering for the following:

Host Name:
Username:
Password:

Member [Frznagn] November 28, 2008 14:57:15

I listed them in my first message. Here they are again.

ftp host: ftpxx.xxx.com
host dir: /web/xxx.com/
login: xxx
password: xxx

Thx.

Dear Frznagn,

That is not correct. That is why I gave you the instructions to go back

to the FTP page so you can get the correct FTP login details.

But I got ALL of this from my FTP page! I put these exact

settings into Dreamweaver and it doesn’t work.

Which setting, or settings is incorrect?

From the FTP page:
Path Username Server/Hostname
/web/xxx.com/ xxx ftpxx.xxx.com

If I use “ftpxx.YYY.com” then it doesn’t work either.

Is my ftp turned off or blocked?

Dear Frznagn,

Host Name: ftpxx.YYY.com
Username: xxx
Password: xxx

I said in my previous post that “ftpxx.YYY.com” doesn’t work.

I get the error message “An FTP error occurred- cannot open

remote folder /web/xxx.com/. Access Denied. The file may not

exist, or there could be a permission problem.”

Ok, now what?

Dear Frznagn,

ftpxx.YYY.com is correct. Do not try anything other then that.

You need to set the password.

1. Login to your account
2. Click on the ftp tab
3. Click the password icon

Incredible, eh? I tell them something doesn’t work and then they tell me to try it! Do they even read what I’m typing? Or are they just following some stupid flow-chart thingy? I found the solution. The solution was simple- instead of “ /web/xxx.com/” use “/”.
