Obama’s speech

Text of Democrat Barack Obama’s prepared remarks for a rally on Tuesday in St. Paul, Minn., as released by his campaign:

…John McCain, a man who has served this country heroically. I honor that service, and I respect his many accomplishments, even if he chooses to deny mine.

What accomplishments? And how is he ‘denying’ yours? Not talking about them is different then ignoring them.

It’s not change when John McCain decided to stand with George Bush 95 percent of the time, as he did in the Senate last year.

‘Change’ is YOUR campaign slogan, not his. Or did you forget?

It’s not change when he offers four more years of Bush economic policies that have failed to create well-paying jobs, or insure our workers, or help Americans afford the skyrocketing cost of college

It’s not the President’s job to create high paying jobs. That’s yours! Insuring our workers? They are insured. Ever hear of workers comp? And since when did it become our government’s job to insure everybody? I don’t recall seeing that part in our Constitution. And the high cost of college? Talk to the colleges! The President doesn’t set the tuition rates!!!

Change is a foreign policy that doesn’t begin and end with a war that should’ve never been authorized and never been waged.

It’s a moot point now. A sunk cost economically speaking. After we pulled out of Vietnam there were an estimated 2 million people killed. If we pull out of Iraq, how many people will die? And then it’ll be our fault for leaving and not having it secured. Are you willing to sacrifice their lives because of an unjust action years ago? It was unjust to bring slaves over here, right? Shall we ship all African-Americans ‘home’ because of it? By Obama’s logic, yes!

I won’t stand here and pretend that there are many good options left in Iraq, but what’s not an option is leaving our troops in that country for the next hundred years—especially at a time when our military is overstretched, our nation is isolated, and nearly every other threat to America is being ignored.

What threats are being ignored? We are dealing with North Korea and Iran. The President may not be sitting down with them, but others are!

…tough, direct diplomacy where the president of the United States isn’t afraid to let any petty dictator know where America stands and what we stand for.

Are you calling Chavez and Ahmadinejad ‘petty’? And you think they won’t be insulted now? Pardon me, but your arrogance is showing.

Maybe if he went to Iowa and met the student who works the night shift after a full day of class and still can’t pay the medical bills for a sister who’s ill, he’d understand that she can’t afford four more years of a health care plan that only takes care of the healthy and wealthy.

College students tend not to have much money in the first place. What’s the problem? Are we supposed to make them wealthy before they go to college? Ok, his sister is ill, and you can pull out the Kleenex and cry if you want. But when did it become HIS responsibility to pay for her medical care? Parents anyone? The sister herself??? I’m not exactly healthy and I’m not wealthy, but I work and I have insurance because of it.

Maybe if he went to Pennsylvania and met the man who lost his job but can’t even afford the gas to drive around and look for a new one, he’d understand that we can’t afford four more years of our addiction to oil from dictators.

So, if you lose your job then the government needs to pay for his gas too? What happened to his unemployment check? When I got out of the military, I made more money on my unemployment check than when I found a job!

and oil companies invest their record profits in a clean energy future…

Would this be setting a new legal precedent? The government telling what companies have to do with their profits? Do you want them telling you how to spend your money? Think about this one!!!

…the chance to get a college education should not be a privilege for the wealthy few, but the birthright of every American.

Again, where do you find this in our Constitution? Why do my taxes have to put someone else through college? How is this fair to me?

But what you don’t deserve is another election that’s governed by fear, and innuendo, and division.

But this is what you are already doing! Vote for me or we’ll be in a war for a hundred years! Vote for me or you won’t be able to go to college! Vote for me or your kids will be left behind! Vote for me so you can have gas money when you lose your job! Vote for me so you can have insurance and not be left to die!!!

Yup, it’s all about the government providing for you. And where is all this money going to come from? The tooth fairy? HA!

we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal

Vote for me and I’ll save the world!!! Talk about your scare tactics from hell!!! Taxing the rich people to death to pay for his plans won’t help this country! After all, it’s the rich people (mostly) that are creating jobs!
