New license plate to show support
A new license plate is now available from the Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles that raises money and awareness for the state’s military. The Alaska Legislature passed a bill during the last regular session that created the “Support our Troops” license plates.
The plates are meant to provide Alaskans a way to show their appreciation for the military. DMV State Registrar Carl Springer said they also raise money for programs that benefit the troops.
“The money itself that is collected, which is an additional $40 to the registration fee, goes into a special account, which goes into a general fund,” Springer said. “Our legislature can appropriate that for any program that supports Alaska troops and their families.”
Another plate honors those families who have lost someone to war and is available at no extra cost.
Families must, however, provide proof of the loss.
