More ‘Change’
August 20, 2008McCain Doesn’t Know What He’s Up Against
August 19, 2008Obama: McCain ‘Doesn’t Know What He’s Up Against’
A combative Barack Obama said Tuesday that Republican John McCain “doesn’t know what he’s up against” in this election and challenged his rival to stop questioning his character and patriotism.
There’s nothing wrong with questioning character. Historians are always talking about a person’s character when it comes time to analyze events.
“Our job in this election is not just ‘win,’ although I’m a big believer in winning,” Obama said during the rally. “I don’t intend to lose this election. John McCain doesn’t know what he’s up against.”
An empty suit that likes to cheat to win?
“He can talk all he wants about Britney (Spears) and Paris (Hilton), but I don’t have time for that mess,” Obama said.
Right. He didn’t have time to produce a video rebuttal nor comment about it? (http://www.arguewitheveryone.com/politics-news/23663-obama-celeb-diva.html. Obama’s campaign quickly responded with a commercial of its own, dismissing McCain’s complaints as “baloney” and “baseless.”)
Now how can he say he didn’t have time for that mess when he clearly did? (Hint-more lies)
Responding to Obama’s comments, McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said: “Barack Obama has made it clear that unconditional withdrawal in Iraq is more important to him than victory in Iraq. That’s not a criticism of his patriotism, that’s a criticism of his judgment.”
Bingo.
Obama strongly condemned Russia’s actions Tuesday but said U.S. involvement in Iraq had imperiled its ability to take a leadership role in the matter.
Right. Never take any military action against another country because if something else were to pop up, you’d be ‘imperiled’. Talk about bad judgement!
Obama’s Slip
August 17, 2008
Obama answered which Supreme Court Justice he wouldn’t have nominated. And why. Notice he was going to say he wasn’t experienced enough but caught himself in the middle of ‘experienced’. Nice catch Barry O!
Not enough experience is bad only if you’re a going to be one the Supreme Court, eh?
Congratulations Michael Phelps!!!
August 16, 2008Epic eight: Phelps makes history
Phelps earned his unprecedented eighth Olympic gold medal of the 2008 Olympics as he swam the butterfly leg of the Americans’ world-record win in the 4×100m medley relay to close out the swimming competition at the Water Cube.
Jason Lezak held off Eamon Sullivan of Australia in the freestyle leg, with the Americans finishing in 3:29.34. Australia took the silver in 3:30.04 and Japan the bronze.
Aaron Peirsol led off in the backstroke leg, Brendan Hansen swam the breast and Lezak anchored, the same three who won gold in Athens. Phelps swam the prelims of that race in Athens, giving up his finals spot to Ian Crocker. The American men have never lost the medley relay in the history of the Olympics.
“Hats off to this guy right here,” Peirsol said of Phelps in an NBC interview on the pool deck after the race. “He did something that’s never been done before. We’re happy to be a part of it.”
Hansen called Phelps’ 8-for-8 the greatest achievement in sports.
“Every single athlete in the world right now needs to tip their hat to Michael Phelps” he said.
Phelps tied Mark Spitz with his seventh gold medal a day earlier in the 100m butterfly, winning by the slimmest of margins, .01 of a second over Milorad Cavic.
“It wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my teammates.” Phelps said. “For the three Olympics I’ve been a part of, this is by far the closest men’s team that we’ve ever had. I didn’t know everybody coming into this Olympics, but I feel going out I know every single person very well. The team that we had is the difference.”
Phelps set world records in seven of his eight swims, with only the 100m fly mark not broken. He also won the 400m IM, the 200m IM and the 200m fly, breaking his own world mark in each, and led off the 4×200m free relay.
It was nine days of magical moments for Phelps, and he said the collective effort is what he’ll remember most.
“Every race, from one to the other,” he said. “It’s the whole thing. It’s a great experience.”
“Everything had to go perfect. Everything had to fall perfectly into place and I was able to have probably the best week of my life.”
He’s the best! ‘Nuff said.
Senseless Murder
August 13, 2008Ark. Democratic Chairman Killed at Party Headquarters
A man recently fired from a Target store barged into the Arkansas Democratic headquarters Wednesday and fatally shot the state party chairman before speeding off in his pickup. Police later shot and killed the suspect after a 30-mile chase.
Police identified the suspect as 50-year-old Timothy Dale Johnson of Searcy, a town about 50 miles northeast of Little Rock. They said that moments after the shooting, Johnson pointed a handgun at a worker at the nearby Arkansas Baptist headquarters. An official there said he told the worker, “I lost my job.”
Chairman Bill Gwatney died four hours after the shooting. The 48-year-old former state senator had been planning to travel to the Democratic National Convention later this month as a superdelegate. He had backed Hillary Rodham Clinton but endorsed Barack Obama after she dropped out of the race.
WTF! Losing your job is no excuse to make someone else suffer or die!
My condolences go out to his family and friends. Kudos to the police that prevented him from hurting anyone else. And curses go to any fool that tries to blame Bush for this. If it was Bush’s fault, he would’ve gone shooting at some Republican. Remember, we still have personal responsibility in this country. For a few more months anyways.
Obama’s Illegal Donations
August 13, 2008Palestinian brothers inside the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip are listed in government election filings as having donated $29,521.54 to Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign.
Hmm, I thought they were all poor due to the horrible Jews.
Donations of this nature would violate election laws, including prohibitions on receiving contributions from foreigners and guidelines against accepting more than $2,300 from one individual during a single election, Bob Biersack, a spokesman for the Federal Election Commission, told WND in response to a query.
No problem, now that Obama’s campaign is aware of this, I’m sure they’ll return the money.
The contributions also raise numerous questions about the Obama campaign’s lax online donation form, which apparently allows for the possibility of foreign contributions.
Is Obama above the law now?
Monir and Hasam Edwan denied their financial transactions online – listed as donations in U.S. government election filings – were actual donations to Obama’s campaign. Instead they claimed they purchased about $30,000 in Obama T-shirts from the presidential candidate’s online store – a contention that did not hold up during a WND interview, when they changed their story several times.
Not lying! Nooooooo! Obama supporters are honest and truthful!
“My brother Hosam and I knew that Obama will be a big hit even before he became a candidate.
Uh, excuse me? Just how did people down there know about him before we knew about him? Is there something else we should know about him???
Obama’s campaign did not return WND phone calls or e-mail queries.
Surprised? I’m not. So much for a ‘new kind of politics’, eh? Same ol’ politics all wrapped up in a new shiny package to appeal to the consumers. Just wait until you get to open the box and find out how empty it really is.
Disturbing Olympic Thoughts
August 13, 2008Isn’t the Olympics about great things like teamwork, competition, proving who’s the best, blah, blah, blah… in an international gathering?
Or simply, ‘getting the gold’?
That’s what I thought. Until now.
olympic medals - does anyone else finding it embarassing to take so many
we walk in with a ‘crowd’ and then seem surprised to get so many - it would be nice if some of the other 240 counties that are smaller got some - it always seems like a gang shows up when we walk in and then so many have to say USA USA - I mean - I just find it like the ‘gang’ is here and we are taking over - what are your thoughts? I know republics like the gangs and bullies to take over everything so they like being king of the mountain all the time - I just feel like others should get a turn more often
Is it a ‘crowd’ or a ‘team’?
” it would be nice if some of the other 240 counties that are smaller got some”
They do!
“I know republics like the gangs and bullies to take over everything so they like being king of the mountain all the time”
So, wanting to be the best is now bad? These games have rules, and all nations are supposed to follow them. How does this make us act as ‘gangs and bullies’?
Why even have the Olympics if trying to be the best is bad? Heck, are they just supposed to hand out the medals based on it being ‘your turn’ to win? These athletes invest countless hours training to be the best and rely on the help and support of those around them to achieve their goals and they’re supposed to go to the Olympics and just have someone hand them a medal because it’s their turn?
Why does the left hate our country so much?
Guess who might be endorsing Obama?
August 13, 2008We all know Zombie Che is supporting him, but as for the living… try Colin Powell.
Sources say former Secretary of State Colin Powell will endorse Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol told FOX News exclusively on Wednesday.
“He may well give a speech at the Democratic convention explaining his endorsement of Obama,” Kristol, a FOX News contributor, said, citing inside sources.
“This is not an absolute done deal, but these people are very confident that Powell will endorse Obama,” Kristol said, adding that he thinks Powell, a Republican, still has “a high respect” for John McCain, Obama’s Republican rival.
Powell immediately denied the report.
“I do not have time to waste on Bill Kristol’s musings,” Powell told ABC News. “I am not going to the convention. I have made this clear.”
Powell’s statements seem to make it clear that the above article is untrue. So why is the left clinging to it? Is it because they’d love to have Republicans supporting Obama because it’ll make McCain look bad?
You’d think that they wouldn’t want anything to do with that ‘traitor’. After all, isn’t it the left that whines that Powell “lied us into Iraq” and “twisted the intelligence”?
Is the Moral of the story “If you support Bushco then you are evil and will be attacked, but if you support Obama, then all is forgiven?”
Don’t even talk about the right losing it’s “moral compass”. At least they have one and try to use it.
Democrats and Vets
August 9, 2008Veteran gets one-on-one chat with Franken
There’s an old saying in politics that elections are won or lost one vote at a time.
On Friday, DFL-endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken demonstrated how true that saying can be, when a roundtable on veterans issues at Brigitte’s Cafe his campaign scheduled drew only one participant.
Gosh, even Bush can get more people than that!
Josh John, a St. Cloud resident who said he served in the Navy from 2000-04, had Franken to himself for an hour as he described difficulties he faced returning from his tour of duty and the help he received from his Veterans Services Office and the St. Cloud VA Medical Center.
“When I first asked for help at the VA, I got kind of a bad attitude from one person, so I ended up leaving and not registering,” he said.
“A year later, the stress was getting to me. I started secluding myself from my family, not wanting to do anything,” he said.
“My mom and my aunt eventually got me to talk with my county VSO. He got me registered with the VA and since then, I haven’t had a problem. I’ve gotten a lot of help, and every question I’ve gotten answered,” John said.
Don’t let one bad apple keep you from getting the services you need and deserve. Keep fighting! As for Al Franken, go back to comedy. It’s something you were better at.
Senate Bill Aimed at Making Absentee Ballots from Overseas Count
Although roughly 6 million U.S. citizens are eligible to vote oversees using absentee ballots — many of whom are serving in the military — only a fraction of their ballots are being counted.
The bipartisan Election Assistance Commission found that of the nearly 1 million absentee ballots sent out for the 2006 election, only 300,000 actually were counted. Some estimate the low return of absentee ballots meant 400,000 service members’ votes overseas weren’t counted.
The problem seems to be the mail. It takes 18 days for the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail to Iraq and 18 days for it to be returned.
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, has introduced legislation that would allow absentee ballots to be sent via Federal Express to those serving in the military, although there reportedly is resistance from the postal union.
“It should be a national scandal that, here, our men and women in uniform who are protecting our freedom who are exposing themselves to harm are being denied the most basic civil right, and that is the right to vote,” Cornyn said.
Cornyn has 29 co-sponsors to his Military Voting Protection Act, all of them Republican.
I don’t know if Fed-Ex is the best solution, but something needs to be done. But what I find interesting is that it appears that only Republicans are interested in having your vote count. So much for Al Gore and his party wanting ‘all the votes to be counted’.
More Media Bias
August 9, 2008Some Media Forgetting to Mention Party Affiliation of Detroit’s Embattled Mayor?
We told you about Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick getting out of jail Friday. Thursday, when the Associated Press reported that he had been imprisoned for violating terms of his bond in his perjury case, the AP failed to mention his party affiliation. Kilpatrick is a Democrat.
But back on July 29, when Alaska Senator Ted Stevens was indicted, the AP made his party affiliation clear. The headline read, “Ted Stevens indicted, longest-serving GOP senator.” The article included the word “Republican” seven times and “GOP” four times.
Media watchdog Web site NewsBusters.org reports that both “ABC World News” and “NBC Nightly News” also failed to report Kilpatrick’s party affiliation.
I notice this a lot in the local paper here too. New rule: If it’s something bad and no party is mentioned, then they are a Democrat.
